The last few years have witnessed a growing problem in the dental industry that has long been an issue in the consumer goods sector: the manufacturing of counterfeit, imitation products. Counterfeit goods account for 5% to 9% of all global trade, representing $450 billion, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). More than 70% of counterfeit products seized by U.S. customs come from China. Counterfeiting costs manufacturers significant revenue and puts thousands of jobs at risk. A recent study in the Journal of the American Dental Association found that one in eight general practice patients have dentin hypersensitivity (DH). A new study in General Dentistry (May-June 2013, Vol. 61:3, pp. 66-71) comparing the efficacy of diode lasers (DL) with stannous fluoride and potassium nitrate gels in the treatment of DH found that the “940-nm DL was not only efficacious, but also brought about improved immediate relief as compared to stannous fluoride and potassium nitrate gels in the reduction of DH.” MORE HERE New Coating Method Accelerates Bonding With Bone is much faster Researchers at the International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics (MANA) and Tokyo Medical and Dental University have developed a coating method which accelerates bonding with bone by three times. Orthodontic subperiosteal devices are superior in terms of low invasiveness, but because bonding with bone on the surface of the bone is necessary, a minimum waiting time of approximately three months had been required until medical use was possible, even when coating treatment was performed with hydroxy apatite (HAp).
